Glengarry Glen Ross David Mamet

# of Words: 389

Sure, observing someone stab another person at the trunk or seeing him skirt the legislation could be interesting, but toss a little competition from the combination, and things could get downright thrilling. This is the form of planet David Mamet is known for producing--a world filled with conflict and tension in which folks behave badly, and we as the audience only get to sit back and appreciate.

Wait--did you think it was all just driving around and showing individuals fine homes? Nope. That is not how things work in the planet Mamet's created.

There are only a few spots atop the leader board, and if you don't market, you don't make the plank. That is business, individuals.

Back in Glengarry Glen Ross, Mamet taps into the desperation, the manipulation, the conniving, along with the straight-up backstabbing that comes into play when a bunch of "coworkers" (trust us--this phrase belongs in scare quotes) are made to outsell every other so as to survive. It is office Darwinism at its best, and it may make you laugh, it may make you mad, and it could just make you question the sort of person you are.

It has taken the point anywhere from Broadway to student-run university basement theatres, and it was turned into a big time film.

One of the most well-known actors out there have played roles in Glengarry Glen Rossas well as the play continues to lure top talent nearly thirty years after its initial production. Actors are enticed to characters that they can sink their teeth into, and with this play Mamet has generated complex men that are independently driven, high-stakes situations, and brilliantly melded dark humor with virtually classical tragedy. It is exciting things for an actor to take on, and it is a pleasure to see and read.

Mamet's design has become legendary in theater circles. The man is really big time, in reality, that the term Mametian was coined to describe his work or work that attempts to be just like hisor herwork which thrives on rapid-fire dialogue, barbarous language, driven personalities, along with also a male-dominated world. Glengarry Glen Ross may still be the best example of the Mametian design out there, and it is well worth a look for anyone who enjoys theater, questions corporate America, or simply loves men who talk fast.

Dr. Zhivago Boris Pasternak

Back in 1958, Boris Pasternak became only the second author (later Jean-Paul Sartre) to ever refuse the Nobel Prize for Literature. The thing is that while Sartre turned down the prize for philosophical reasons, Pasternak turned it down because the Soviet government would have given him a severe trouble if he'd dared to accept it. Wait, why? It was only one year before, in 1957, that Pasternak published his masterpiece Doctor Zhivago. He wrote the book in Russian, but since the book criticized......Read More

All The King's Men Robert Penn Warren

Since the novel is not linear, it's easy to get confused at different factors.
