Historically most societies have employed the death penalty in some measure. Today nearly all of Europe, most of Latin America, along with countries such as Australia, New Zealand, and Canada have abolished the death penalty from their practice and law. But some countries such as the US, Guatemala, and a lot of Asia and Africa retain it.
