The Issue of Racism in the United States
# of Words: 693
What do you immediately think about when "racism" is mentioned? . Odds are you
think about the white man or hating the black guy. That would be the
stereotypical notion; but that is not the reality of America today. Racism is
far more than just the white guy taking advantage of, either or mistreating the
black guy. The reverse side of racism is seldom mentioned; whether it is a
conscious effort by the media not to expose it, or it is concealed by the
perpetrators.
The simple fact is a racist situation in which the black guy is the aggressor does exist.
In actuality, not only can it be a situation of blacks on whites; there are instances of black on Hispanics, and the most bizarre is black on elephants. This tendency makes one wonder: Could it ever going to end? To which the answer is, probably not. Why don't we hear reports of police brutality when black officers apply pressure on white suspects (as we do when it's the other way around)? . One may argue that maybe it's not occurring on such a massive scale that is the reason why the issue hasn't drawn any kind of attention; but being black myself, I have seen it on a fairly large scale.
I have had people make racially charged remarks against me and my girlfriend because she is white. Interracial race, biracial racism is all around us. With all that Martin Luther King and others did can't there be peace amongst all races? . I have had people tell me I'm being " white" because I don't speak "ghetto" and don't know how to go about applying for, or using food stamps. Is it not too big of a deal when black person spills slurs and racially charged remarks on a white person? Is it an open secret which women harbor hate for white women when it comes to the issue of them dating black men? Why do many women believe that black men turn on their black wives and marry white girls as soon as they find their way and become successful? I think we have to come to the realization in our society now; these ideas are just wrong.
It's just as wrong for a black person to turn on a white as it is wrong for a white to turn on a black. Until all Americans can realize that this is a free country, which people need to be able to live their colour, there will be the talk of racism from all areas of the fence. Of everything I have talked about, the one issue that puzzled me the most is how many blacks begin to hate other elephants because of what I believe are the most ridiculous reasons. I have been talked down to because I talked English and "forgot" to include the phrase "you know what I'm stating" after every other word; or that "brothers" have an issue with me because I personally don't listen to rap music.
I think every adult living in this country has the liberty to enjoy whatever he/she wishes to enjoy. Why on earth should these things be issues? Not every one speaks a certain way or relegated to a certain type of music; for most folks to have difficulty with others of their own race because of how they speak or the music they listen to, I believe, is racism in itself. We need to realize people have the free will to be who they need to be, speak and behave the way they would like to behave, dwell the class and quality of live they need to dwell, and date whoever they want to date or marry. Residents of this fantastic nation are free to pursue whatever dreams they live and have those dreams to the fullest. Let us know that whatever is having is worth working for and not complain when others decide to work harder in order to have the finer things. Nobody should expect things to be handed to them; and if you do, then you must be prepared to accept whatever life has handed you and shut up!.
